Limassol will be the proud of the 2008 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, and CyBC will be presenting the show live from the brand spanking new ‘Palais des Sports’. The new arena, which was designed with Basketball and Gymnastics in mind, was opened a couple of years ago and has a capacity of 7500, as well as a rather unusual shaped roof; sort of layers across the top of the building making it an architectural spectacle instead of just another indoor arena.
The temporary slogan for next year’s competition is ”Fun in the Sun”, celebrating the fact that Cyprus is still warm even in deepest December! The arena has on-site parking, separate entrances for VIP’s and the Press- who have their own Press Centre within the complex- and fully-installed air conditioning already in place- one of the only things lacking in Helsinki.
The only potential problem with this venue is that there are no seats in the tiers- they are simply long rows of concrete, common to many continental arenas, on which there are markings of seat numbers.
